I am incredibly excited for my sweet friend Ava, founder of Slumlove Sweater Co. In her new fall line, Ava is introducing a new men's crew neck striped sweater and adding a cardigan to her line. I was honored when she asked me to photograph these new looks because, not only do I love the clothing, but I, also, love the mission behind Slumlove. Ava has employed a woman in Uganda, named Claire, to make the sweaters and then has them sent to the U.S. to sell. Part of the proceeds go back to Claire and another part goes back to fund children's education in African slums.
Ava and I met a few months ago when I photographed her at her home as part of my 'Made with Love' series. She and I hit it off immediately and have been planning to collaborate ever since. We finally found a day that worked and we shot her fall line on the streets of downtown Austin!
Fall is my favorite season because it brings around feelings of nostalgia (with the holidays around the corner) and coziness. Nothing says cozy like a warm sweater! I think colder weather allows you to add different dimensions and individuality to an outfit (by adding sweaters, jackets, scarves etc.). Needless to say I am ready for some colder weather here in Austin, Texas! Check out her website for access to stylish sweaters and to support a beautiful cause.
