Strength + vulnerability - so many times society and our culture today tries to tell us these two things are mutually exclusive; that being strong means not opening up too much and not letting people see that you have a story that has wounds or insecurities. I am starting to realize through reading books and observing wonderful people in my life, that vulnerability is one of the strongest characteristics. Sharing your story and your experiences of pain or joy is inspiring and has the ability to connect us as humans. I love the confidence that comes with accepting ourselves and trusting that we have experienced things for a purpose and maybe that purpose is to help someone else get through something. I say all of this knowing that maintaining boundaries is also important. Not everyone has earned the right to hear your pains and insecurities - this is what community is for. We get to surround ourselves with people who encourage us through hard times and celebrate with us during the good times. I am so encouraged by the people who have shared their stories with me - who have been vulnerable and allowed me to learn from them.
These photos are from a collaborative shoot I did with two dear friends - Caryn + Danielle. Caryn is an extremely talented photographer in town and Danielle is the beautiful owner of Joy Organics Austin. We wanted to do a simple shoot that inspired all three of us to create some magic. We were focused on raw, natural beauty and skin because Joy Organics just launched their new skincare line. It was so wonderful to create alongside these talented, beautiful friends.
