The name Spire came from the concept of being inspired. I am very fascinated by the idea that as a creative human being, I can see something in my daily life that would maybe not stand out to anyone else but that one object can spark endless visions. It's something that leaves me in awe still whenever I think about it.
- Chelsey Nordyke | Founder, Spire the Label
Chelsey Nordyke, CEO + designer of Spire the Label, is 21 and proving that age is just a number. While always enjoyed fashion design, she started designing Spire a couple years ago after realizing she did not have the funds to go to fashion school. She realized that she had all the sketches, ideas, and creativity she needed to start a label and would figure out the rest as she went along. She as done just that. She entered her first small collection into this year's Austin Fashion Week and won the top prize, which earned her both recognition and connections to start designing her second collection. I have only known Chelsey for a few weeks, but I can tell that we have more than just a photographer-designer relationship. We have a lot in common besides our creative talents and love for fashion, which is part of why I love my job - I get to meet people and (sometimes) get to know them on a more personal level. I love seeing the passion behind their business and being a part of something that will continue to grow.
Some of Chelsey's influences include: Public School NYC, Rag and Bone, Keepsake, Bec and Bridge, Wes gordon, Eva Fehren, Cmeo Collective, Mara Hoffman, Pamela Love, By Johnny, Nicholas the Label, and Camilla and Marc, just to name a few. She was clear that she enjoys being asked about where her inspiration comes from and giving credit to the people she looks up to as designers. I loved her collaborative outlook and her appreciation for others work.
Chelsey has a very clear vision of what she wants her company to be and how she wants to encourage women to be unique + strong. She wants her collection to have unique pieces while also providing the opportunity for the customer to mix and match them. Make sure to look for Spire the Label and a feature on Chelsea in The Style Line, soon. The Spire Founder will also be showing her line in Dallas Fashion Week in September of this year.
