Thankfully business has started to pick up this month! I am super thankful for all of the clients I have gotten work with. I worked on a couple projects that I am really excited about - a collaboration shoot with Gigi PIp x Hackwith Design. another shoot with Apt F, finished up edits on the book cover images, and planned more details for my collaboration shoot, Dear Girl, with my friend, Cally! I was asked to give a presentation at our first Story Team Workshop and got to meet our photo team, which was really fun and nerve wrecking for this introvert. Thankfully, it went well and I am so excited about the talent within our team.
Lastly, my girl Paige and I booked our flights to ICELAND + THE FAROE ISLANDS for September! To say I am excited would be a huge understatement. I will also be doing some work while I’m there which I’m super thankful for. I can’t wait to explore beautiful landscapes and eat delicious food.
I took on a couple shoots that felt out of my wheelhouse this month (event style photography) and I would be lying if I said I didn’t feel insecure while shooting. I photographed worship services at church and it absolutely challenged me and pushed me outside of my comfort zone. I do not shoot in low light/artificial light situations often, so I had to adjust to settings that I am not used to shooting in. It’s really easy to listen to the lies of not being talented enough or allowing yourself to lean into the fear of the unknown. I am so thankful for friends like Elli. a talented live music photographer, who offered me advice and encouragement when I needed it.
RECENT SHOOTS // Excited to share more photos from these shoots on the blog soon!
FREELANCING RESOURCES //
Alyce Zawacki // Lawyer for Creatives
This month I got to take headshot photos for Alyce Zawacki, an incredibly kind lawyer here in Austin, but she is doing something a little different - she is marketing specifically towards creatives. I think it is so important to keep yourself educated and know about legal things when it comes to business. If any of you talented creatives out there have any legal needs, I would definitely reach out to Alyce. She is extremely knowledgeable and is a great advocate to have on your side.
I love this article that discusses how to advocate for yourself as a free lancer. It talks about charging the appropriate amount, setting boundaries and realizing that sometime you have to say ‘no’.
I recently started using HoneyBook for my accounting (I have been using Freshbooks) and I am so excited about all of the options it has for my business!
I can send proposals, invoices, + contracts from one place, which makes it so much easier on my clients to correspond with me. They can pay the invoice (via credit card if they want) online and sign the contract digitally. I can set up templates to make more efficient use of your time (which is a HUGE plus when you work for yourself). I connected my bank account + I can input expenses in order to keep track of my profit and loss.
They also have a user friendly mobile app and the user interface is beautiful (both app + website). Also, their customer service is helpful and so friendly!
