A couple weeks ago, I took a trip back to Alaska (quickly becoming one of my favorite places). As always, I’m thankful that I have a job that allows me to travel and work with awesome brands on my trips. Equal Uprise sent me a few products (two hats + a purse) to photograph - I love getting to combine my passion for adventure with my love for fashion photography. Special thanks to my dear friend Paige, who is a stunning model + talented photographer.
Last week, I spent my days exploring around LA - hanging out with old friends, taking a lot of photos, eating delicious food, wandering along the beach and meeting new friends. Darien (seen in the photos below) and I have been “instagram friends” for a couple years and finally got to meet while I was in town. There is something so wonderful about meeting people who you immediately have a connection with. We very quickly realized we are extremely similar in personality (both Type 2 on the Enneagram) and also have experienced similarities in our life. It felt like we had known each other for way longer than a couple hours. She kindly agreed to model for me for a shoot I had planned with Koolaburra, so we wandered around Venice and up the coast to Point Dume, an overwhelmingly beautiful look out along the ocean.
I love that I have a job that allows me to shoot in new places and meet cool people. I am also super thankful for clients like Koolaburra who trust me to capture their brand and have allowed me to be creative + travel with their product. Traveling always allows me to refill my creative cup while experience new places. It helps to remind me why I enjoy what I do and challenges me to try new things. I hope you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them!
Strength + vulnerability - so many times society and our culture today tries to tell us these two things are mutually exclusive; that being strong means not opening up too much and not letting people see that you have a story that has wounds or insecurities. I am starting to realize through reading books and observing wonderful people in my life, that vulnerability is one of the strongest characteristics. Sharing your story and your experiences of pain or joy is inspiring and has the ability to connect us as humans. I love the confidence that comes with accepting ourselves and trusting that we have experienced things for a purpose and maybe that purpose is to help someone else get through something. I say all of this knowing that maintaining boundaries is also important. Not everyone has earned the right to hear your pains and insecurities - this is what community is for. We get to surround ourselves with people who encourage us through hard times and celebrate with us during the good times. I am so encouraged by the people who have shared their stories with me - who have been vulnerable and allowed me to learn from them.
These photos are from a collaborative shoot I did with two dear friends - Caryn + Danielle. Caryn is an extremely talented photographer in town and Danielle is the beautiful owner of Joy Organics Austin. We wanted to do a simple shoot that inspired all three of us to create some magic. We were focused on raw, natural beauty and skin because Joy Organics just launched their new skincare line. It was so wonderful to create alongside these talented, beautiful friends.
